Dipsea Trail Description

The Dipsea Trail is a scenic hike through the coastal wilderness that exhibits the beauty and diversity of the area’s native flora and fauna. Wander through temperate forests and lush meadows to the coastal bluffs, which reward you for your efforts with epic maritime views. We encourage you to dress in layers as the varying terrain and proximity to the coast warrant ever-changing conditions. Note that Muir Woods charges an entrance fee and requires reservations; refer to the NPS website for additional information.

Setting out from the Dipsea East Trailhead, hikers will be guided south along the Dipsea Trail, over Redwood Creek. From here, the path will gradually climb into the wilderness, up to a rocky ridge. Enjoy the lush undergrowth adorned with vibrant wildflowers that bound the towering redwoods in the spring. Keep an eye out for deer as you hike, and you will eventually reach the summit of Cardiac Hill. Beyond this point, the path will gently descend as the tree coverage becomes thinner.

Eventually, the path will open to the coastal prairies lush with wildflowers, offering wonderful views of the Pacific. After crossing Webb Creek, you will ultimately reach the trail’s end at Stinson Beach. To get back to the trailhead, simply head back the way you came.
