The Mummy Mountain Hike is sure to impress as you experience the diversity of the Rocky Mountain National Park. Adventure past the Alluvial Fan, along alpine streams, and up to the summit of a Colorado 13er. The diversity of the terrain exhibits various weather conditions, so wear layers as insurance. Ensure you are acclimated to the area’s high elevation prior to the hike, as you will be ascending high altitudes. Pack plenty of provisions and water to stay fueled along this adventure. Note you can break this journey into two days if you have the gear to make it an overnight expedition. Located within the Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP), visitors are required to purchase a park pass.
Begin your journey along the Mummy Mountain Trail from the Lawn Lake Trailhead. From here, the trail tracks northwest up to the Alluvial Fan and Horsetooth Falls. Hike along the banks of the Roaring River through meadows and vibrant aspens. As you travel along the path, you will pass several dispersed campsites and be rewarded with vistas of the encompassing snow-capped peaks of the Mummy Range. Eventually, you will confront a junction. Here, take the middle route up to the summit of Mummy Mountain. The summit trail is more primitive, and the path is steep, exercise caution and use the trail GPS if needed.
Hike up the vertiginous terrain to the summit and enjoy 360-degree vistas of the neighboring peaks and the subalpine forests. Notice Lawn Lake and Crystal Lake sitting in the mountain cirque below. Revel in the picturesque scenery, rest and refuel before beginning your descent. When you are ready to roll, retrace your steps along the route back to the trailhead.
