Heart O’ the Forest Trail Description

Heart O’ the Forest Trail is a simple scenic hike that features an old-growth forest in Olympic National Park. This is an ideal trail if you’re camping at Heart of the Hills or if you just want a forgiving quick outing.

Begin from the trailhead, heading roughly southeast to where the trail crosses a stream. The first section of the route is quite flat and simple, taking you through the mossy forest. The elevation gain isn’t very noticeable in this part.

Leaving and then rejoining the river, you’ll hike to where the trail terminates on the creek bed. This might not be super clear to find, so if you haven’t hit the creek yet, just keep going. You’ll need to lose some elevation to get down to the creekbed. From here, you’ll retrace your steps back to the trailhead.
