The Ness Wood Circular Walk is an amazing woodland excursion in Northern Ireland that will allow you to explore a peaceful forest with a charming riverside setting. While out on the trail, you will traverse the forest pathways and follow along the winding banks of the Burntollet River, before taking in the views of the Ness Waterfall. There are some steep sections along this trail; however, it is an excellent option for a fun family adventure.

The trailhead for the Ness Wood Circular Walk can be found 8.2mi southeast of Londonderry, at the Ness Country Park car park just off Oughtagh Road.

The Ness Wood Circular Walk Description

If you enjoy taking lengthy strolls through the forest and appreciate waterside settings, then you will be sure to love The Ness Wood Circular Walk. In addition to a peaceful woodland atmosphere, you will be able to enjoy the views of a charming river and cascading waterfall. What a fantastic way to spend a weekend afternoon.

Setting out from the car park, you will make your way southwest to enter into the cover of the forest and pass by a viewpoint overlooking the Ness Waterfall. After taking in the views, you will follow along the banks of the Burntollet River, relaxing amongst the trees as you continue your leisurely stroll to the southwest.

Eventually, you will cross over the river twice and climb up the steep hillside to the northwest in order to complete a short loop through Burntollet Wood. After descending the hillside, you can retrace your steps along the river to begin making your way back to the trailhead, eventually crossing over the river once again to make a slightly different approach. After passing by the Ness Waterfall, you will cross the Burntollet River one final time and arrive back at the car park.
