Portstewart Strand and Estuary Walk Description

As long as you don’t mind getting a bit of sand in your shoes, the Portstewart Strand and Estuary Walk is a fantastic adventure that features sweeping seaside views and is loads of fun for the entire family. In addition to walking along the beach, you will also have the opportunity to complete a loop near the estuary of the River Bann, which is a great place for viewing birds.

Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way to the west along the sandy expanse of the Portstewart Strand, enjoying some lovely views of the water – and possibly staking out a beach spot for later – before turning left onto the loop portion of the walk. Here, you will loop around the dunes and walk along the banks of the Bann River that will eventually bring you back to the edge of the sea. From here, simply retrace your steps along the beach in order to arrive back at the starting point of your walk.
