Portglenone Forest Walk

While it may be a lovely little walk through the woods, the Portglenone Forest Walk can also become quite busy during peak hours. If your plan is to enjoy the tranquil forest in solitude, then you should aim to arrive a bit earlier to avoid the crowds. Additionally, there is a fee of £4 per vehicle to enter the forest.

Even still, this is a beautifully scenic adventure in County Antrim, Northern Ireland that should definitely be undertaken if you find yourself in the area. Peaceful forest paths, the beautiful River Bann, and a plentiful amount of woodland flowers await on this fantastic family-friendly adventure.

Setting out from the car park, you will make your way west through the dense cover of the forest, gently descending the hillside until you arrive at the banks of the River Bann. Take some time to appreciate the views across the water, as you turn to the north and walk along the east bank of the river for a spell.

After reaching the northwest corner of the route, you will turn to the east and begin climbing back up the hillside, passing by mature trees and plentiful wildflowers on the return leg of the walk. The trail will eventually turn to the southeast and continue to meander through the tranquil forest, stopping off at a charming pond before returning back to the car park where you started the Portglenone Forest Walk.

This classified ancient woodland may be small, but it is filled with a variety of plant life that makes for a truly beautiful recreation area. In addition to the mature trees that are spread throughout the area, Wild Garlic, Wood Anemone, and Bluebells can all be found here, with the latter blanketing the landscape in the spring.
