The North Down Coastal Path may be a bit on the long side, but it is a beautifully scenic adventure with stunning views across the water. While out on the trail, you will walk along the shores of Belfast Lough, enjoying the beautiful coastal views as you cover the distance between Holywood and Orlock Point. This is a one-way trail, so be sure to arrange a pick up or plan on utilizing transit for the return leg of your adventure, lest you be forced to walk the entire distance of the trail again!

North Down Coastal Path Description

If you enjoy long distance walks that feature beautiful coastal scenery without much in the way of difficult terrain, then you will be sure to enjoy the North Down Coastal Path. With only 889ft of elevation gain spread across 15.4mi of trail, this is a pretty laid back route that will allow you to enjoy the seaside atmosphere for an entire day.

Setting out from the trailhead near the Holywood railway station, you will make your way to the northeast past Seapark Beach, before continuing onto Seafront Road. Continuing on along the coast, you will enjoy spectacular views across Belfast Lough, before rounding Grey Point and taking in views of the fortifications there.

From here, you will keep on walking along the bays and coves that make up the coastal landscape, working your way through the city of Bangor and it’s lovely marina. Continue on as you make your way around Ballyholme Bay and Ballymacormick Point, passing through Groomsport on the way to the trail’s end at Orlock Point. Here, you can take your desired method of transportation back to the trailhead where you began.
