The Lough Foyle Trail is a pleasant walk in COunty Londonderry that will take you along the coast for some exceptional views across the water. While out walking the trail, you will make your way along a well-maintained coastal track and cross over several rivers, as you enjoy beautiful views across Lough Foyle. Although it is a bit of a longer route, the flat terrain and well-maintained path makes this walk suitable for all ages.
Getting there
The trailhead for the Lough Foyle Trail can be found at the end of Station Road, just northwest of Ballykelly.

Lough Foyle Trail Description
Featuring an amazing sightline across the estuary and easy-going terrain, the Lough Foyle Trail is a fantastic walking route in Northern Ireland that is suitable for outdoor enthusiasts of all varieties. Be sure to wear comfortable footwear, as this route is a bit on the longer side!
Setting out from the trailhead, you will head to the northeast to cross over Ballykelly Burn, turning right in order to follow the stream towards the shoreline. From here, you will head right and continue along the edge of Lough Foyle while enjoying sweeping views across the surface of the water.
After reaching the banks of the Burnfoot River, you will make a quick detour to the southeast in order to cross the river, before heading back towards the coast. From here, you will continue to use the water’s edge as a guide until you reach a railway line along the Roe Estuary. At this point, you can simply turn back to relive the beautiful seaside views on the return to the trailhead where you began your walk.
