The Kinbane Castle and Kinbane Head Walk is an amazing outdoor experience in County Antrim, Northern Ireland that features gorgeous coastal terrain and interesting historical sites. While out walking the trail, you will walk along the coast and navigate several series of stairs in order to visit the ruins of the 16th Century Kinbane Castle. While this route is short and relatively easy, the stairs along the trail will likely present difficulties for less mobile walkers.
Getting there
The trailhead for the Kinbane Castle and Kinbane Head Walk can be found approximately 3.0mi northeast of Ballycastle, next to the Kinbane Castle car park at the end of Whitepark Road.

If you enjoy visiting fascinating historical ruins and taking in breathtaking views along the coast, then you will be sure to enjoy the Kinbane Castle and Kinbane Head Walk. This stunning adventure will take you to visit the ruins of a 16th Century castle by walking along the rugged terrain of the coast, so make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and keep an eye on children and dogs, as there are some steep drop offs.
Setting out from the car park, you will make your way to the northwest and head downhill, navigating the fairly steep stairs that will bring you closer to the ruins of Kinbane Castle. After a brief detour to the right to visit some ruins near the coast, you will navigate another set of steps on the way to the castle itself.
Here, you can explore what is left of the stone walls that once made up an impressive two-storey castle overlooking the coast and take in some spectacular views that stretch out to Rathlin Island. After experiencing the history and exploring the rugged terrain of Kinbane Head, you can simply head back along the same route, taking care as you navigate the steep steps on the way to the car park.
