The Ballyboley Forest Loop is a beautifully scenic walking route in COunty Antrim, Northern Ireland that will lead you through forests and meadows for views of a charming reservoir. While out walking the trail, you will meander along the woodland pathways of Ballyboley Forest, before traversing several open fields on the way to the shores of the Killylane Reservoir. Walkers should take note that this trail is dog-friendly, just remember to exercise caution and clean up after your canine companions.

Ballyboley Forest Loop Description

If you are searching for a fun intermediate length walking route that features a variety of terrain types and is also dog-friendly, then you will definitely want to give the Ballyboley Forest Loop a try. This scenic route will lead you through tranquil forests and open fields, offering plenty of room for your dogs to run wild.

Setting out from the car park, you will initially make your way to the west and follow the trail as it winds up the forested hillside. Keeping left at the junctions, you will eventually cross over Killylane Burn and arrive at the scenic shores of Killylane Reservoir.

After taking in the views of the water and surrounding landscape, you will enter back into the cover of the trees and backtrack along the trail until you arrive at the junction. Head left here and continue through the forest to the northeast, before following the trail as it bends south. Take some time along this final stretch to appreciate the tranquil atmosphere of the woodland setting, before arriving back at the car park where you began.
