To begin the Swinsty and Fewston Reservoir Walk, ​park at the Swinsty Moor and Fewston Reservoir car park. The parking here is free but can be busy with limited parking during peak times. You can also park at the Stack Point and Blubberhouses car parks nearby.

Leaving the car park, you will walk towards the Fewston Dam and turn left, which will take you on the signposted water authority path. Continue alongside the Fewston Reservoir and then around a small inlet crossing Thackray Beck. You will come to an outlook that showcases the reservoir and will then emerge at Blubberhouses carpark. As you walk towards the end of the carpark, you will come across a walkway and steps leading up to the main A59. Here, you will cross the River Washburn across the road bridge.

You will turn right after crossing the bridge, and you will be on the water authority path, which descends to the reservoir edge. Continue to follow the path to the Fewston dam, which is just past the reservoir house. Climb down the steps and cross to the Swinsty Reservoir path, which is right before the dam on the other side of the road.

As you continue to follow the Swinsty Reservoir path, you will come to the Stack Point carpark and picnic site. Turn right at the road and cross the causeway watching for traffic. Turn right where you will be on the reservoir path, and you will come to a driveway to the reservoir house and Swinsty Dam. Cross over the dam, and continue right and follow the track on the far side. After a short while, the track passes Swinsty Hall. Turn left and then right and continue to follow the path going through the woods, and you will find yourself back at the car park as this is a circular path.
