Mirror Lake Loop Trail Description:
While Mirror Lake itself is quite scenic, the majority of the Mirror Lake Loop Trail passes through dense forest, limiting the views throughout the hike. Additionally, the trail can become covered with snow/ice in the early and late parts of the hiking season, so be sure to bring crampons for better footing.
Even though the middle portion of the hike could be more scenic, the Mirror Lake Loop Trail is an amazing adventure for the entire family. Take your time enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the forest, breathing in the fresh air as you climb uphill to the shores of Mirror Lake and the incredible viewpoint looking out onto Mount Hood. If you are after a straightforward day hike with beautiful views of the Oregon landscape, then you’ve certainly found one!
Setting out from the west end of the Mt. Hood Skibowl parking lot, you will pick up the Mirror Lake Loop Trail and follow it west into the tree cover. After a few initial switchbacks, the trail will steadily climb uphill through the woodland landscape.
Following the trail as it bends south, you will quickly begin to gain elevation to eventually break free of the tree cover at the shores of Mirror Lake. At this point you can follow the path in either direction around the water’s edge, although for the sake of this guide we went counterclockwise.
Looping around Mirror Lake, you will pass by a viewpoint overlooking the water, before arriving at a gorgeous viewpoint that looks out onto Mount Hood to the northeast. After completing the circuit, simply follow the same path back downhill to arrive at the parking lot where you started the Mirror Lake Loop Trail.
For those seeking another hiking adventure in the area, the Trillium Lake Loop Trail is another great option that the entire family will enjoy.
