Twin Lakes Trail Description

Hike up to the Twin Lakes tucked under Winchester Mountain, discovering an excellent view on a less-busy trail. Intrepid adventurers can continue up Winchester Mountain, but the hike to Twin Lakes will likely have you winded all on its own.

This route is quite rocky, so good boots are recommended. Poles are also very helpful for the steep ascents on this hike.

From the trailhead, head past the lake and begin switchbacking up the mountain. There are a couple of spur trails, but you’ll generally want to stay right. After the switchbacks end, the route heads directly up a gully past Yellow Aster Butte. This is a tiring climb, but you’ll need to keep a little gas in the tank to take on the last few switchbacks that get you up to the lakes.

From the lakes, you’ll retrace your steps back to the trailhead when you’re ready.
