Duchray Castle Walk Description
The Duchray Castle Walk is a family favourite, due to its lack of height gain and its star feature, the Duchray Castle! Starting from Milton, the 4.9mi walk begins along the banks of the Duchray Water before reaching the Duchray Castle, which you’re invited to enjoy from afar. The castle was built over 500 years ago, and Sir Walter Scott once wrote that Rob Roy MacGregor was present in the castle when Recoats appeared to capture him, but that he absconded (in true Rob Roy fashion!), making for an exciting story.
After passing the castle (now an Airbnb), the walk continues beside the Loch Ghleannian quarry before heading downhill to dazzling Loch Ard. The final stretch unfolds on a gorgeous coastal path right past the famous Rob Roy’s cave before returning to Milton, where the walk began.
