Van Sickle Rim Trail Connector Description
The Van Sickle Rim Trail Connector is a must-add to your adventure itinerary. Explore the alpine terrain, reveling in the grandeur of the encompassing mountainous landscape. The terrain along this route is mostly sandy, with a few sections of rocky outcrops. As you navigate the uneven path, it is important to mind your footing, and we urge you to consider wearing ankle-bracing footwear! Additionally, much of this hike is exposed, so wear layers as insurance against changing conditions. As the path is located at high elevations, it is also important to be acclimatized to the area’s altitude prior to tackling this adventure! Don’t forget to pack plenty of water and snacks to stay fueled along this tiring trek.
Adventure through mixed alpine forestlands, past snow-melt cascades, through granite gardens, and up to scenic overlooks along the Van Sickle Rim Trail. Hugging the state line between Nevada and California, this section of the route travels exclusively through the Sagebrush State. Get your heart rate up as you venture along the mountainside, adorned with towering pines and red firs. Accessible and open year-round, you can hike, bike, run, or snowshoe along this scenic trail. Indulge yourself in the picture-perfect scenes, letting them motivate you along the way. We love this hike, and so will you! This route is an excellent choice for your next alpine adventure above South Lake Tahoe.
Embark on your excursion along the Van Sickle Rim Trail Connector from the Van Sickle Trailhead off N Administrator Road. Setting out from here, the trail climbs southeast up the Van Sickle Trail to a scenic overlook of Lake Tahoe and Stateline city below. Revel in the sights, then continue your hike, navigating a set of switchbacks up the eastern slope of East Peak. As you ascend the path, the tree coverage will become thinner—exposing sweeping vistas. If you’ve never been to California, now would be the time to step a foot into the state.
Follow the Van Sickle Rim Trail northeast, past a small snowmelt cascade that surges in the spring and often dries in the late summer. If flowing, you will be mesmerized by the sights of the waterfall. When you are ready, continue your trek along the mountainside, maneuvering the granite outcrops that adorn the hillside. The higher you climb, the better the vistas of Lake Tahoe and the vaulted snow-capped peaks of the High Sierra. You will ultimately reach the trail’s end when it connects with the Tahoe Rim Trail. If you have some gas left in the tank, feel free to explore further. If not, simply retrace your steps along the path all the way back to the trailhead.
