Tamarack Lake and Aloha Lake Loop

The Tamarack Lake and Aloha Lake Loop is a must-add to your hiking list—trust us. This scenic adventure guides intrepid explorers past several alpine lakes, charming cascades, historical sites, lush forests, and meadowlands, all the while exposing wonderful mountain views. Wander through the diverse topographies and get a workout in as you enjoy the scenes. Be sure to wear comfortable footwear, dress in layers, and check the forecast before your trek! Note hikers are required to pick up a free hiking pass which can be found at the trailhead!

Setting out from the Stanford Sierra Camp, the Tamarack Lake and Aloha Lake Loop follows the Fallen Leaf Road before merging onto the Glen Alpine Road. Eventually, you will reach the Tamarack Trailhead, take this route, and you can officially begin your hike. Follow this trail through the woodlands, granite gardens, and through a mountain saddle. As you wander, there will be several intersecting routes; continue along the Tamarack Trail to the trail’s end above the shimmering alpine lake, where you will merge onto the PCT. The PCT will guide you to Lake Margery, where you will be diverted left onto route 17E40, which will deliver you to Aloha Lake. Revel in the beauty of the alpine lake adorned with several islands, then reconnect with the PCT heading north.

The PCT will lead you past Le Conte Lake, Heather Lake, Susie Lake, and onwards. At the intersection with the Glen Alpine Trail, you will turn right and venture this route southeast. This section of the hike will guide you to the historic Glen Alpine Resort, past the Modjeska Falls to Lily Lake. Here you will reconnect with the Glen Alpine Road, where all you need to do is retrace your footing to the Fallen Leaf Road and back to the trailhead.
