Jake’s Peak Hike Description

The Jake’s Peak Hike is a must-add to your adventure itinerary. Wander through mixed woodlands, granite gardens, and up to the summit. Immerse yourself in California’s high country and revel in the grandeur of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range that bounds Lake Tahoe. Note this is a popular route, so think again if you are expecting a secluded adventure! If you are hoping for a more sequestered experience, then head out in the early morning to beat the heat and the crowds! When venturing in the winter months or late fall, we urge you to wear microspikes or snowshoes!

Setting out from the parking lot, the Jake’s Peak Hike crosses over Highway 89 and onto the un-signposted route. The path is explicit at first, then it becomes more primitive, but don’t worry, we’ve got your back. Wander up the trail through mixed forestlands and past granite outcrops. Heading southwest up a set of switchbacks, you will eventually reach the summit of Jake’s Peak.

You will be granted impressive views of Lake Tahoe and the High Sierra from atop the mountain. Admire the grandeur of the mountainous landscape, and when you are ready, head back the way you came back to the trailhead.
