With the beautiful scenery and incredibly high-country terrain, there is no shortage of scenery to motivate you as you hike. Note the path is often snow-cloaked and icy in the late fall and winter months, so be sure to pack a pair of microspikes or snowshoes in the off-season. Setting out from the trailhead, the Barker Pass to Twin Peaks Hike follows the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail into the backcountry. Heading northwest along the mountainside of Barker Peak, you will be granted wonderful views of the encompassing landscape. Climbing through mixed forestlands and exposed terrain, you will eventually dip into a small mountain basin, crossing over North Fork Creek. At this point, you will begin to climb more intensely.
Demanding the navigation of several switchbacks, you will soon reach an intersection. Here, turn right onto the Tahoe Rim Trail, which will deliver you to the summit of the Twin Peaks. Revel in the beauty of the surrounding Sierra Nevada Mountains and Lake Tahoe from here. When you are ready, head back the way you came back to the trailhead.
