Barker Pass to Tahoe City Hike

The Barker Pass to Tahoe City Hike is an epic point-to-point hike along the western rim of Tahoe Lake. Explore diverse terrains and revel in the various scenes of the encompassing mountainous wilderness. Be sure to dress in layers as the lengthy route warrants different conditions. Additionally, don’t forget to leave a car or arrange or pickup at the trail’s end on Highway 89. Though this route can be ventured year-round, many of the backcountry roads are subject to seasonal closures, so be sure to check the road status.

Setting out from the Barker Pass Trailhead, the Barker Pass to Tahoe City Hike follows the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail (PCT) up along the mountainside of Barker Peak, over North Fork Creek, and up several sets of switchbacks. Soon you will reach a junction, veer right here onto the Tahoe Rim Trail, which will guide you up to the Twin Peaks. Revel in the grandeur of the encompassing wilderness, including sights of Lake Tahoe.

From here, the path will gradually descend into lush meadowlands, mixed pine forests interspersed with aspens, all the way to your adventure’s end.
