Wetherlam Walk via Steel Edge Trail Description
Although the route isn’t overly long, the Wetherlam Walk via Steel Edge is a challenging adventure due to the rough and rugged terrain. This walk is best done during the height of summer when the upper portions of the trail are a mere rock scramble. Attempting to climb this route in the winter will require experience and proper gear such as crampons, ice picks, and helmets. Be sure to wear proper walking footwear and pack any necessary gear based on the trail and weather conditions.
Setting out from the car park, the trail initially follows along Blake Rigg Gill before branching off to the southwest to reach the foot of the hill. From there, it is a steep uphill climb along the rocky and rugged terrain of Steel Edge until you arrive at an elevated position atop the hill. Make your way northwest along the trail, climbing further uphill until you reach the summit of Wetherlam to enjoy some breathtaking views of the surrounding fells and Windermere off to the east. After experiencing the sweeping views, make your way northeast along the trail to descend the steep hillside, eventually turning south to follow Blake Rigg Gill back to the car park where you began your adventure.
