Walking the Sizergh Levens and Hincaster Circular is a great activity with several historical points of interest that can be found just on the outskirts of the Lake District. While on the trail, you will pass through charming villages and beautiful stretches of forest along the River Kent, with the highlight of the walk being a visit to the grounds of Sizergh Castle. This is a great trail if you are interested in learning about some local history.
Getting there
To reach the starting point for the Sizergh Levens and Hincaster Circular Walk from Levens, drive southeast on Levens Lane for 0.5mi and turn left onto the ramp for the A6. Follow this for 0.3mi and merge onto A590 to continue on for another 0.8mi. Make a left onto Nannypie Lane, and you will find the trailhead on the left in 0.3mi.

While not located in the Lake District, the Sizergh Levens and Hincaster Circular Walk is a popular trail for those heading into the area to stop off and explore some local history. The trail begins at The Strickland Arms and heads north to visit the grounds of Sizergh Castle that has been in the Strickland Family for over 700 years. After exploring the magnificent historical site, you will make your way through Brigsteer Park, before passing through the charming village of Levens. After crossing the River Kent, follow its winding banks back to the Strickland Arms, where you can reward yourself with a refreshing post-walk pint.
