The Old Man of Coniston, Swirl How, and Wetherlam Circular is a challenging Lake District route that will see you climb each of these peaks - as well as a few others - for some truly breathtaking views. From the summit viewpoints, you will enjoy a commanding sightline across the undulating Lake District, with views of several lakes that include the blue expanse of Coniston Water to the southeast. While the initial stretch of this walk up to the summit of Old Man of Coniston is quite busy, the rest of the trail will be fairly quiet.
Getting there
To reach the car park for the Old Man of Coniston, Swirl How, and Wetherlam Circular Walk from Skelwith Bridge, drive southwest on the A593 for 5.1mi and turn right to continue on for another 0.1mi. Continue straight here for 115ft before turning right at Station Road. After 225ft, make a left on Old Furness Road and you will find the car park on the right in 413ft.

Walking the Old Man of Coniston, Swirl How, and Wetherlam Circular is a popular activity in the Lake District, as you will have the chance to reach the summit viewpoints atop several well Known peaks. The walk begins with the busiest part of the trail leading up to the summit of Old Man of Coniston, where you will enjoy amazingly scenic views of Coniston Water and several smaller lakes in close proximity. From here, you will traverse the summits of Brim Fell and Swirl How on the way to the rugged top of Wetherlam. After enjoying some more amazing views of the surrounding mountains, make your way south along the undulating terrain to return to the village where you began.
