Getting there
To get to the starting point of the Nether Wasdale and Wastwater Walk from the Old Post Office Campsite in Santon Bridge, drive to the north for 1.9mi and make a left turn to enter the car park.

Walking the Nether Wasdale and Wastwater Trail is a fun and relaxing journey that is popular with beginner walkers and families looking to explore the beautiful landscapes of the Lake District. The trail sets out from the car park and heads to the northeast to traverse a stretch of open farmland that typifies the picturesque English countryside. From here, the trail will turn more towards the east to circle around High Birkhow and arrive at the edge of Wastwater. Enjoy the stunning views across the lake as you walk along the shore, passing through Low Wood on the way to the banks of the River Irt. Here, the trail will cross over the rushing waters of the river and head back to the west, traversing some more farmland on the return leg of the journey to the car park where you started.
