Latterbarrow & Wray Castle Walk

While the Latterbarrow & Wray Castle Walk is a fairly easy and straightforward adventure that is suitable for walkers of most skill levels, there are some stretches of the trail on the way to the summit viewpoint that require uphill walking and others that can become quite muddy at times. Be sure to wear decent walking footwear to stay comfortable on the trail. If you are looking for toilet facilities or a cafe along the trail, these can be found at Wray Castle; however, prices at this site run by the National Trust can be quite high.

Setting out from the starting point of the walk, head south along the road and pick up the trail on your right, following it to the southwest around Blelham Tarn before meeting back up with the road. From here, you will climb uphill to the east along the slopes of Latterbarrow before arriving at the summit viewpoint. Here, you will enjoy some beautiful views overlooking Windermere as you descend the hillside to the northeast, following a course toward the edge of the water. Once there, you will be able to enjoy some more lovely views across the lake before making your way through the grounds of Wray Castle that dates back to 1840. After exploring the grand historical site, follow the road to the southwest to make your way past St. Margaret’s Church on the way back to the trailhead where you started.
