The Hopegill Head via Ladyside Pike Walk is a tough climb over a series of rocky summits that will provide you with some spectacular views overlooking the Lake District. This route can be challenging at times, with sections of trail that are hard to distinguish and a steep descent along the mountainside. If you are able to handle the challenging conditions, you will be rewarded with truly amazing views of nearby fells and Crummock Water to the southeast.

Getting there

To reach the trailhead for the Hopegill Head via Ladyside Pike Walk from Braithwaite, make your way west on B5292 for 3.5mi and make a slight left to continue on for 0.5mi. Make another left and you will come to a small layby next to the trailhead in 1.1mi.

Hopegill Head via Ladyside Pike Walk Description

Although challenging in some places, the Hopegill Head via Ladyside Pike Walk is a popular Lake District route with walkers that don’t mind traversing some rugged terrain and hard to discern pathways in order to experience some amazing views. The trail climbs up the steep hillside and traverses a ridgeline that leads up to the summit of Ladyside Pike. From here, you will continue to the summit of Hopegill Head, where you will enjoy some breathtaking views of fells to the south that include Grasmoor, Crag Hill, Wandope, and many more. From the summit, continue along the rugged terrain to the east and work your way over Whiteside before descending its western slope on a difficult to navigate path that will lead you back to the trailhead where you began.
