The Grizedale Visitor Centre from Moor Top Walk is a fun, family-friendly adventure that is perfect for days when the views on other trails might not be the greatest. Along this trail, you will make your way through serene forests and open tracts of land to reach the Grizedale Visitor Centre. Here, you can rent bikes, pop into the cafe for refreshments, monkey around on a Go Ape course, or simply use the toilet facilities before continuing along the latter half of the trail.
Getting there
To reach the Grizedale Visitor Centre from Moor Top trailhead from Hawkshead, drive southeast on Main Street for 0.1mi and turn right, following the road for 0.2mi. Make another right and continue on for 1.1mi before turning right to arrive at the car park.

The walk to the Grizedale Visitor Centre from Moor Top is a fun adventure with plenty of access to other outdoor activities that the entire family is sure to love; however, there are a few things to consider before setting out for your journey. This route passes through some forest terrain that features uneven paths, which might not be the greatest for very young children or families with strollers. Additionally, there are many intersecting pathways that can make navigation confusing. Make sure to bring a GPS or a good trail map to navigate the trail.
Setting out from the car park, follow the road to the southwest before picking up the trail on the left to enter into the dense cover of the forest. Take some time to appreciate the peaceful atmosphere of the woodland setting before arriving at the Grizedale Visitor Centre. Here, you can stop in at the cafe for some refreshments, rent bikes to explore the area, or explore the canopy of the trees on the Go Ape course. After having fun with these activities, continue west to climb uphill through Grizedale Forest, following the trail as it turns north through the strong network of woodland trails to arrive back at the car park where you began.
