Church Stile Farm to Wastwater Trail Description
While the walk from Church Stile Farm to Wastwater is a fairly easy undertaking, there are a few things to consider before setting out on your adventure. The trail is dog friendly; however, you will most likely run into some roaming livestock while out on your walk. Be sure to keep your dog on a lead in these areas to avoid any serious interactions. Additionally, the mix of open farmland, forest, and boggy terrain can be troublesome for walkers without decent footwear. Be sure to wear sturdy boots that are ideally water-resistant if you are walking early/late in the season.
Setting out from the trailhead on the edge of the campsite, make your way northeast through the open landscape and follow the path as it turns to the southeast across some slightly boggy terrain on the approach to Woodhow Tarn. After passing by the small lake, continue to the southeast and make your way through the tranquil atmosphere of Low Wood, eventually arriving at the edge of Wastewater. Enjoy the views across the lake with the surrounding fells in the backdrop, looping through the forest to eventually cross over the River Irt. From this crossing, make your way to the southwest to exit the canopy of the forest and meet up with the side of the road. Head west here and follow the road as it crosses back over the river towards the edge of the village of Nether Wasdale. After reaching the Church of St. Michael and All Angels, bear right and continue through the campgrounds to arrive back at the trailhead.
