Route Description for Kemater Alm Hike
From the parking lot, follow the forest road straight uphill. There will be no cars (except maybe some farm tractors) as this road is closed for visitors. The forest road will get you to Kemater Alm in about 25 minutes. The trail is nothing special; it is mostly shrouded under the forest canopy but, the views and the atmosphere of Kemater Alm will make the trip worth it. The forest road is well built, although the ascent can get quite steep sometimes.
At Kemater Alm you can have some beverages and explore the surroundings. Children like to play in the cold river nearby. There is also a children’s zoo with goats, rabbits, and other farm animals.
To get back to your car hike back the same way.
There is also a beautiful, alternate route, if you do not want to walk on the road. From the parking lot, hike up the meadows to your left (if you are facing up the mountain) and continue on the trail in the meadow parallel to the river and the forest road until you reach Kemater Alm.
Insider Hints
Go early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The trail can get quite busy.
There can be lots of cows around the meadows! If you take a dog with you make sure you bring a leash.
Although it is a short hike, you do not want to rush it. You can spend a good amount of time just exploring the surroundings.
You can extend this hike to the Adolf-Pichler Hutte. This is a nice destination and allows you to explore the area even more!
