The Mineral Point Trail is a well-revered adventure in Northern Idaho, and there is no doubt as to why. Easy-going and incredibly scenic, you will be rendered speechless by the views of Lake Pend Oreille and the bounding Idaho Mountains. This hike is one of our favorites, and it could be yours too.

Mineral Point Trail Description

Explore lush temperate rainforests cloaked in moss and wildflowers along the Mineral Point Trail. This beautiful adventure boasts a great workout while offering motivating views of the snow-capped mountains mirrored in the shimmering lake. Note much of the terrain is uneven and rocky, so wear a sturdy pair of footwear to avoid a rolled ankle! Additionally, it is important to be mindful of wildlife as you wander and know the procedure in the case of an unlikely encounter. Lastly, you’ll want to make sure your camera is charged; the scenery is postcard-worthy.

Setting out from the trailhead off Green Bay Road, the Mineral Point Trail will guide you into the woodlands. Shortly after your departure, the terrain will intensely climb. Mind your footing on the steep and, at times, uneven path. After some hiking, you will reach a fantastic overlook of the lake, Green Bay beach, and the snow-capped mountains complemented by lush forestlands. Admire the scene from the point, then resume your adventure.

The winding route along the lakeside ridges will eventually reach the adjacent trailhead for the Mineral Point Trail. While we decided to turn around here and head back to the trailhead at Green Bay Campground, you can choose to continue on further if you desire.
