Transept Trail Description
Transept Trail is an easy route that follows the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, the less-visited and more rugged side of the canyon. This trail is perfect for families or casual visitors thanks to its easy grade and shorter distance. It begins right in front of the Grand Canyon North Rim Lodge and turns around near the North Rim Campground, making it very easy to get to and navigate back along.
You won’t need any special equipment for this route, but we recommend preparing for the variable weather on the North Rim before your visit. It can be very hot in the summertime and snowed in during the winter, so check the forecast and dress accordingly. Since the North Rim is about 7000ft higher than the South Rim, the weather up here can be quite different.
From the front of the lodge, take the trail to your left as it turns north, then stay left where it begins to hug the rim. Marvel at the vast wonder right beside you as you make your way northwest. This route turns around when the North Rim Campground is on your right.
