The hike to Thompson Falls is an 7.4mi out-and-back route that runs alongside the Blaeberry River and allows you to experience its mighty, rushing waters as they flow through a canyon. The trail is largely forested, which blocks many views of the surrounding area; however, the woodland atmosphere is relaxing, and the portions of the trail close to the river will provide some magical scenery. Bears are known to frequent this area, so make sure to bring bear spray along for this hike.

Thompson Falls Description

A day trip out to Thompson Falls is a great way to get out and explore some of the beautiful and rugged landscapes that can be found in the Golden area. The falls can be found just north of the city and near a scenic canyon along the Blaeberry River. Hikers should make sure to bring bear spray along for this hike as they are known to frequent the area around the trail.

The route sets out from Blaeberry Road and heads into the thick forest along a parallel path to the river. As you make your way along the trail, you will be able to hear the sound of the rushing water and take in the relaxing atmosphere of the forested landscape. Although most of the route is made up of relatively easy to traverse terrain, hikers will have to navigate several steep sections along the trail. These are short-lived, and you will soon arrive at the powerful waters of the Thompson Falls. Take some time soaking in the majestic views of the rocky canyon and coursing river before heading back down the trail to return to your vehicle.
