The trail to Quartz Lake is an 5.5mi out-and-back hiking route that will take you uphill through an alpine valley to the beautiful emerald waters of the lake. The trail is varied, with sections of light forest, steep trail, and often muddy paths that follow along the creek to the picturesque alpine setting of the lake. For those looking to extend their trip and explore the area over a few days, there are two tent pads, a food cache, and an outhouse at the lake for your convenience.
Getting there
To get to the Quartz Lake trailhead from Golden, drive northwest on BC-1 for 25.2mi and turn left onto Quartz Creek FSR. Continue for 3.5mi, and you will find the trailhead on the left.

The Quartz Lake Trail is a great hiking route near Golden, BC, that will allow you to get out and explore the beautiful alpine terrain without the difficulty of some of the region’s longer and more challenging routes. Along this trail, you will climb up through the alpine valley to the serene waters of Quartz Lake, where you can bask in the peaceful atmosphere of your mountain surroundings.
The trail initially climbs up a steep grade before leveling out through the forest as you follow alongside the flowing waters of the creek. The upper portions of the trail are often blanketed in mud, so make sure to wear proper hiking footwear to stay dry and comfortable along the trail. Hikers looking to spend a few days exploring the area can utilize the amenities near the lake to camp out overnight; however, the trail is located in bear country, so remember to safely secure your food and bring bear spray along for this hike.
