Crater Peak Trail Description
Crater Peak Trail leads you through the forest of Crater Lake National Park to the top of its namesake peak, from where you’ll have an expansive view of the whole park in all directions. It’s one of the best vantage points of the park available to hikers. This hike has some steep sections, but it’s not technical, so strong beginners and better should be able to complete it.
You’re unlikely to see many other hikers on this route, so make sure you download your map and come prepared with everything you need for a successful outing. Bring bug spray!
From the trailhead, the route crosses Vidae Creek and then runs along E Rim Drive for a while as it gradually climbs up the side of a ridge. Heading south, you’ll hike through the trees on the broad ridge that leads to crater peak. The final push up the peak is steep, but the views are worthwhile once you make it. You can’t see the lake, but you can see all the mountains that make up the park. When you’re ready, retrace your steps.
