Walking the Stow in the Wold Circular is an amazing experience in Gloucestershire due to the fact that you can visit several charming villages and explore the scenic terrain within The Cotswolds AONB. The trail begins in Bourton on the water and cuts across the picturesque landscape to Stow on the Wold before turning to the southwest to visit the historic village of Lower Slaughter. It is a bit of a longer route, but the beautiful views and local history along the route certainly make it worthwhile.
Getting there
To reach the trailhead for the Stow in the Wold Circular Walk from Stow on the Wold, drive to the south on Fosse Way/Roman Road/A429 for 3.6mi and make a left onto Lansdowne. Follow this for 0.3mi to find the starting point of the walk in front of The Mousetrap pub.

Charming villages, lovely riverside settings, and beautiful rolling green hills await on the Stow on the Wold Circular Walk, a fantastic route that will lead you through a number of picturesque villages that dot the Gloucestershire countryside. Setting out from the trailhead, you will first walk through the historic centre of Bourton on the Water before turning to the northeast to leave the village behind and traverse the open countryside. After crossing over the River Eye and the River Dikler, continue on to the northeast through the rolling green hills that make up the surrounding farmland until you arrive at Stow on the Water. Take some time to explore the lovely village before turning to the southwest to descend the hillside and cross back over the River Dikler on the approach to Lower Slaughter. Here, you can visit the mill and other historical sites before following the banks of the River Eye out of the village. Continue across the fields to the southwest and you will eventually arrive back in Bourton on the Water where you began your adventure.
