The Loe Circular Walk is a beautifully scenic adventure in Cornwall that offers views of the coast and the largest natural freshwater lake in the region. While out on the walk, you will make your way through the Penrose Estate and around the shores of the lake, traversing The Loe Sandbar before making the return through the town of Helston. Walkers should take note of tidal times before setting out on this walk, as water levels around the sandbar can have a swift current.

The Loe Circular Walk Description

If you are torn between choosing a scenic coastal adventure and taking a stroll around the shores of a charming lake, then The Loe Circular Walk might just be the answer to your dilemma. This fun trail will both take you along the Cornish Coast and The Loe, a former estuary of the River Cober that was closed off from the sea by a sandbar and turned into a freshwater lake.

Setting out from the car park, you will make your way downhill to the east in order to traverse the grounds of Penrose Estate, passing by the old bath house and stables in order to reach the shores of The Loe. From here, you will continue along the water’s edge to the southwest until you arrive at the Loe Bar, at which point, you will need to cross over the sand to pick the trail back up. Exercise caution in this section, as water levels will rise with the tide and can be dangerous.

After picking the trail back up, you will make your way to the northeast along the eastern shore of the lake, taking in the scenic views of the water before arriving at the edge of the town of Helston. Here, you will cross over the River Cober and make your way southwest along its banks, passing by the lake once more before climbing uphill along the same path that will bring you back to the Penrose Estate car park.
