Walking the South West Coast Path: Padstow to Mawgan Porth is a lengthy adventure that will allow you to fully experience the natural beauty of the Cornish coast. While out on the trail, you will explore the various bays, coves, and beaches that can be found within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Make no doubt about it, this is a long and tiring walk that is often split up into two days.
Getting there
To access the South West Coast Path: Padstow to Mawgan Porth trailhead from the Padstow Museum, head north on Riverside for 0.2mi and continue straight onto S Quay for 207ft. Make a right onto The Strand and follow it for 223ft before making another right onto N Quay Parade. You will reach the trailhead in 0.1mi.

Featuring breathtaking coastal highlights, such as secluded coves, dramatic cliffs, and sandy beaches, the South West Coast Path: Padstow to Mawgan Porth is a fantastic way to explore and experience the beauty of the Cornwall coast. This section of the famous South West Coast Path is one of the longer ones, and while it doesn’t feature overly challenging terrain, the overall distance often causes walkers to split it up into a multi-day journey. No matter how you decide to attack this scenic trail, it is sure to be a memorable experience.
Setting out from the trailhead at the Padstow ferry crossing, head towards the north along the coast to walk around Stepper Point, where you will enjoy stunning views that sweep out across the blue expanse of the ocean. From here, the trail will bend to the southwest and skirt around several coves and bays before working around Trevose Head.
At this point, you will continue to make your way south through the Cornwall AONB, before arriving at the beautiful beach at Porthcothan. This is a fantastic place to lay out in the sun and enjoy the picturesque seaside atmosphere. Once you have passed the beach, keep walking south along the undulating terrain of the coast to eventually arrive at the end point of the walk at another beach, Mawgan Porth.
