Port Gaverne to Barrett's Zawn Circular Walk

Walking the Port Gaverne to Barrett’s Zawn Circular Trail is a scenic experience; however, the impressive coastal views also come with steep and fairly rugged terrain. Make sure to take your time through these areas and wear sturdy walking boots for the best footing along the trail. Additionally, the steep drop offs along the coast are not suitable for children, so be sure to keep an eye on them when walking along the coast.

Although the terrain may be fairly rugged, this is an exceptional walking route that will provide a bit of a challenge while still allowing you to relax and take in the beauty of the Cornish Coast. Charming villages, scenic headlands, and secluded coves await on this amazing adventure in the southwest of England.

Setting out from the St Endellion car park in Port Isaac, you will head downhill to the southeast for 0.3mi, following along the road as it takes you through the charming hamlet of Port Gaverne with its beautifully scenic beach. Here, you will pick up the footpath on your left and follow it around the headland for some amazing views looking out onto Castle Rock and the Cornish Sea.

After looping around the headland and arriving back at the edge of the road, you will turn left and follow it for 120ft, before turning left onto a lane. Eventually, the lane will transition into a footpath that will lead you along the water’s edge. Continue along this path as it takes you through the rugged coastal terrain for the next 1.6mi, offering views of the dramatic cliffs and rocky coves below, before arriving at a fork in the path.

Heading right at the fork, you will make your way down through a deep ravine and climb up across the other side in order to reach a viewpoint overlooking the rocky inlet known as Barrett’s Zawn. There is an old tunnel nearby that once provided access to the beach; however, this should absolutely not be used, as it is in a state of disrepair and is extremely dangerous.

After taking in the views of Barrett’s Zawn, follow the trail leading to the southeast for 0.8mi, as it transitions into a lane and then eventually comes to a junction with a road. Turning right here, you will follow the road west for 2.5mi, as it cuts across the picturesque Cornish countryside and takes you through Port Gaverne to arrive back at the car park where you began the Port Gaverne to Barrett’s Zawn Circular Walk.
