New Grimsby and Old Grimsby Circular Walk Description

If you are in the southwest of England and are searching for a unique way to spend some time outdoors while exploring a lesser-known part of the country, then you will definitely want to check out the New Grimsby and Old Grimsby Circular Walk. This fun trail will take you away from the mainland UK to explore the Isles of Scilly, a collection of temperate oceanic islands located 28 miles from the coast.

Setting out from the trailhead at the New Grimsby Quay, you will make your way to the northwest along the coast to enjoy some beautiful views across the water towards the island of Bryher. Along this portion of the walk, you will pass by the historic Cromwell’s Castle and King Charles’s Castle, before traversing Gun Hill and Tregarthen Hill at the northern end of the island to arrive in old Grimsby.

From here, you will make your way towards the south along the east coast of the island, working along the various coves and points that characterize the beautiful coastal landscape here. Eventually, the trail will turn to the west and take you inland to visit the ruins of St Nicholas Priory and the Tresco Abbey Gardens. After exploring this area, you will make your way around the Great Pool and through New Grimsby to arrive back at the trailhead where you began your island adventure.
