Hell’s Mouth to Godrevy Circular Walk

While spending a few hours on the Hell’s Mouth to Godrevy Circular Trail will make for a fun afternoon, there are some steep drop offs along the rugged coastal landscape that could prove to be potentially dangerous. Be sure to exercise caution and keep an eye on children and dogs when travelling through these areas. Additionally, the varied terrain present throughout this route will require some proper walking shoes for the best footing along the trail.

Even though the coastal portions of this walk can be a bit rough around the edges, the stunning scenery is more than enough to make it worthwhile. Charming farmlands, sandy beaches, secluded coves, and a wonderfully scenic vantage point overlooking the 19th Century Godrevy Lighthouse await on this exceptional adventure along the Cornish Coast.

Setting out from the car park, you will make your way along the track to the southwest for 0.2mi, before turning left to enter into the cover of the forest. From here, you will head slightly downhill through the tree cover and cross over two small streams in order to arrive at a gate with a pond on your left. Pass through the gate and continue on to the southeast for 0.3mi, traversing the open farmland and passing through two more gates to reach the edge of the road.

Turning to the right here, you will make your way west for 1.1mi and arrive at a junction with Churchtown Road. Follow this to the left for another 0.4mi, taking the road on your right to branch off towards Godrevy Point. Shortly after passing the Godrevy Cafe, you will follow the trail that leads around the car park to the northwest for 0.5mi, enjoying the views overlooking the beach and Godrevy Cove, before arriving at a junction with the road.

Turning left here, you will follow the road for a short distance and keep left at the fork to continue along the footpath for 0.3mi. Here, you will arrive at the viewpoint at Godrevy Point that overlooks the beautifully scenic 19th Century Godrevy Lighthouse on a small offshore island.

After taking in the views, make your way east along the coastal path to enjoy views overlooking the charming and secluded Mutton Cove and Kynance Cove, where you will likely be able to spot a colony of grey seals on the shore below. After 1.8mi of walking from Godrevy Point, you will finally arrive at the beautifully scenic end point of the walk at Hell’s Mouth, a stunning cove with 300ft tall cliffs that offer views overlooking the sea. From here, it is only a short walk back to the car park where you began the Hell’s Mouth to Godrevy Circular Walk.

Godrevy Lighthouse

Built on Godrevy Island between 1858-1859, the Godrevy Lighthouse is located just off the Cornish coast, a mere 984ft from the headland known as Godrevy Point. The lighthouse was constructed with the purpose of warning ships of the nearby Stones Reef, which sank many ships during the 19th Century. The octagonal tower is 26m tall and cost £7,082 to build.
