Cotehele and Metherell Circular Walk Description
Featuring serene stretches of woodland terrain, picturesque fields, and a calming riverside setting, the Cotehele and Metherell Circular Walk is the perfect route for a leisurely weekend stroll in the Cornish countryside.
Setting out from the car park, you will follow the road to the southwest past Cotehele Quay and pick up a footpath to begin making your way uphill through the forested valley. Here, you will pass by the Cotehele Mill and follow along the Morden Stream, before exiting the cover of the trees. Continuing on to the northwest, you will climb uphill along the edge of Comfort Wood, eventually arriving at the Carpenters Arms, a great place to stop for a quick drink after the uphill climb.
From here, the route will climb slightly further uphill to the northeast around Metherell, before descending into another wooded valley. Here, you will traverse the serene forest setting in a southeastern direction, passing by Danescombe Cottage and several chimneys set amongst the trees, before arriving at the banks of the River tamar. In the distance to the southeast, you will have some nice views along the river, the village of Calstock, and the Calstock Viaduct. Following the trail to the southwest, you will make your way along the water’s edge until you arrive back at the car park where you began.
