Ellesborough and Chequers Court Walk Description

The Ellesborough and Chequers Court Walk takes you on a loop around the Prime Minister’s mansion, demanding attention in the countryside. Expect some ascents that will propel your heart to pump, as well as relaxing sections that give a chance to admire the sprawling scenery etched across Chiltern Hills. This walk also includes steps and stiles! After the rain, it can be slippery, so consider proper footwear before going during wetter months. Other than revelling in the Prime Minister’s residence, you’ll also traverse a section of the Ridgeway—Britain’s oldest road.

From your car, you’ll head towards Aylesbury Rings, a signed footpath. You’ll pass by stiles, Springs Cottage before your ascent to Ellesborough Church. After the church, the path will veer right by Beacon Hill, taking you through woodland and a grass field. Eventually, you’ll reach Britain’s oldest road: the Ridgeway, which will take you by Chequers Court. After the Ridgeway, take the bridleway followed by Missenden Road and a mud footpath, passing by Combe Farm. The path will take you back to Ellesborough Church, but you will circle the opposite side you came to get back to your car.
