Penderyn and Sgwd yr Eira Falls Circular Walk Description

For those walkers looking to experience a variety of terrain and scenic views while out on an adventure in Brecon Beacons National Park, the Penderyn and Sgwd yr Eira Falls Circular Walk is a great option. This trail will see you traverse small peaks, pass through forested valleys, and take in views of stunning waterfalls.

Setting out from the trailhead, you will make your way west across the open landscape to traverse the fairly small but still exposed peak of Moel Penderyn, where you will take in some amazing views of the surrounding area. From here, you will continue west to Craig y Ddinas, before making a descent into a lush valley along Afon Mellte. From here, you will climb uphill through the forest to the northeast, passing through a golf course and some open farmland, before entering back into the dense cover of the forest.

Here, you will reach the northern terminus of the route and cross a footbridge over Afon Mellte, immediately heading south to view the cascading waters of Sgwd Uchaf Clun Gwyn. Continuing on to the south along the river bank, you will take in the sights of the waterfalls of Sgwd Isaf Clun Gwyn, before temporarily climbing uphill towards Sgwd yr Eira Falls. To reach this well-known curtain of water, you will descend a series of steps and walk behind the water to reach the trail on the opposite bank. At this point, you will make your way out of the valley to the southeast, crossing over the moorland to return to the village where you started.
