Route Description for Flattop Mountain
Don’t get tricked by the short length of this hike – it’s harder than it looks. The end of this trail is definitely not easy as you will need to use your hands to make it up. Make sure to wear adequate footwear if climbing during colder months as the trail might get covered in snow and ice and spikes are strongly advised. Also, be careful where you put your feet when climbing down!
From the car park, you will find the trailhead on your left (southeast). You’ll start switchbacking and will reach the first intersection with Blueberry Loop. The rocky peak in front of you is Flattop Mountain.
At an intersection, you can take any of two trails as the Blueberry Loop is a circular easy hike and you will end up at the right spot anyway. After traversing Blueberry Hill, you’ll reach the saddle.
Once you reach the saddle, continue up on the trail identified by paint markings on the rocks. This path leads to the south side of the ride and you leave the Blueberry loop (that now turns west) behind. Shortly the trail will get steeper. The closer to the top, the steeper it will get and you will gain last 1312ft of the elevation in a very short distance.
Once you are on the top, enjoy the views! There’s lots of space and make sure to explore around – we thought that the view on the back of the mountain was the best!
Continue back the same way you came.

It was a moderate hike with fantastic views. Make sure to wear proper gears and footwear to avoid any injury. Trails can get slippery at times.
