North York Moors

A trip to the North York Moors National Park, often referred to as the North York Moors, is really several adventures in one. The area covers over 550 square miles in North Yorkshire and has such a varied terrain between heathered moors, shady forests, and a beautiful coastline that you may not need to go anywhere else on this trip!

When planning a trip to England, a big consideration is the weather, and the North York Moors is no different. One crucial feature to take into consideration here though is the blooming of the native heather. On a global scale, heather moorland is rarer than tropical rainforest, while the longest expanse of heather moorland is found in the North York Moors. So, we strongly recommend to try and get to the North York Moors in summer or early autumn to see this beautiful sight!

It is important to take note that as well as the incredible beauty of the blooming heather, the moorlands are designated as areas of conservation and scientific interest due to the unique habitat it creates for rare flora and fauna. Which means even if you can’t make it for the heather blooming you still have an opportunity to see some unique plants and animals.

The best way to see the stunning North York Moors are on foot or bike. We love exploring here, and there are great hiking trails in the North York Moors. Getting outside in the stunning terrain is what a trip to the North York Moors is really about.

The towns and villages in the region are charming and the food is homemade and good. Like much of England, the local village pub is really the highlight of a trip here, and we encourage staying in villages with a local pub, and ensuring you enjoy your evenings in these wonderful, cozy respites.
