Rocky Mountain National Park
Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) is one of America’s stunning national parks. With more than 100 peaks rising above 11000ft, this truly is a place for mountain lovers. With big mountains (such as Longs Peak, at 14259ft), beautiful mountain lakes and abundant game, a holiday in Rocky Mountain National Park should be on your bucket list.
Established in 1915, Rocky Mountain National Park is an outdoor lover’s paradise. Whether you choose to explore by foot, bike, horseback or car, you’ll be sure to love the views. A great drive is the Trail Ridge Road, the highest paved highway in North America.
Summer sees epic hiking, such as Chasm Lake, Sky Pond and Hallett Peak. Alas, if you love mountain biking you’ll need to go elsewhere, as Rocky Mountain National Park doesn’t allow mountain biking on their trails. That said, the incredible roads that traverse Rocky Mountain National Park are also popular with cyclists. Winter sees wonderful opportunities for backcountry skiing or winter hiking. Snowshoeing and sledding are also popular in Rocky Mountain National Park.
We like to base ourselves in Estes Park to experience the best of Rocky Mountain National Park, however many people love staying in Grand Lake, on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park. Some visitors also stay in Longmont or Boulder, both about 55 minutes from Estes Park.
