Zell am See - Kaprun
Zell am See - Kaprun is the ideal destination for outdoor loving families and nature-oriented young adventurers. We love it, no matter the season – in fact you might be able to experience all season adventures in one trip if you time it right!
In all but the hottest summer months, a trip to Zell am See - Kaprun could entail hiking, biking, swimming, sailing, and even skiing! The Kitzsteinhorn Glacier offers an exceptionally unique experience of being able to take a combination of gondolas and lifts directly from Kaprun to the top of the glacier at over 9843ft above sea level. Once there, the experience can include panoramic views, high end dining, and a ski season that runs from September to July! There is also the option to take the gondola or lifts partway up for access to incredible alpine hiking while conveniently skipping the initial leg burning altitude climb.
Zell am See and Kaprun are the two villages that make up the heart of this adventure region and a stay in either is delightful. The picturesque mountain towns provide a range of accommodation and of course you can venture out from there and spend a night or two in a mountain hut. We like to spend a little bit of time in all three to get the full experiences of the region! One thing we love about this area and the accommodation is that when you stay in many of the hotels you can get one of their Summer Cards (May 15th - October 15th) which gives you access and discounts to numerous adventures, activities, local transport and more!
Of course, you could always choose one town to set up your base, and truly neither is better than the other because the local transport around the area is so convenient. There are buses that run between the two villages, as well as other major destinations such as the gondolas or chairlifts. Plus, in the summer months, the Summer Card includes access to this public transport so where ever you decide to stay you are never far from the adventure!
