Route Description for Third Beach
From the trailhead begin along the wide, flat trail. It will take just under 1.5mi of hiking to get down to the ocean. As you meander through the forest, you will be delighted by the dense underbrush and towering trees. Finally, you will begin the sustained descent down to the water’s edge.
When you arrive at the sea you will have to hop across some driftwood covering a creek to get onto the beach. Once you’re on the sand you’ll have to decide which way to go. Regardless of which way you end up going you will have a fantastic time meandering along the expansive sandy beach. We recommend going to both ends of the beach.
Notably, there are several small islands and rock outcroppings that are barely visible to the east (left, if you’re looking out to the ocean). At the very eastern edge of the beach you will find a tall but narrow waterfall. The craggy cliffs on the west side are also quite impressive.
Check out more amazing hikes in the Olympic National Park, like the Hoh River Trail, Ozette Triangle or the Obstruction Point hike.
