The Marmot Path is an incredible Crans Montana hiking route that offers the chance to view some of the tallest peaks in the Alps, as well as the charming marmots that have become the region’s mascot. This lovely descent is a great day hike in the region.
Getting there
To reach Crans-Montana by car, take the exit of the A9 motorway (Rhône motorway) called "Sierre ouest". At the motorway exit, turn left and follow the signs for "Sierre". At the roundabout, turn right. Continue for 1640ft, then at the entrance to Sierre, turn left following the signs for "Crans-Montana".
Once you arrive in Crans-Montana, follow the signs for the cablecars and Crans-Cry d'Er car park.
The journey takes about 20 minutes.

Route Description for Marmot Path
After taking the gondola up to the Cry d’Er Club d’Altitude, you will begin your adventure along the Marmot Path by hiking to the northeast. Here, you will descend the mountainside on the way to the Cabane des Violettes.
Upon your arrival at the Violettes hut, there are several possibilities available for the rest of your hike. You can either return to the station via the gondola or descend by the path crossing the Pépinet mountain pasture. There you will enjoy views of some of the highest peaks in the Alps, including Mont Blanc, Grand Combin, and the Matterhorn in the distance. Your hike will end after descending to Vermala, where public transport leaves to return to your accommodation or your car.
