Lone Lake Trail DescriptionLone Lake Trail
Immerse yourself in the unspoiled backcountry of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests on the Lone Lake Trail. This lightly trafficked route consistently climbs into the woodlands, through luxuriant meadows adorned with wildflowers, and up to the lakeshore. Note that wildlife is abundant in this area—some may consider bringing bear spray. Additionally, much of the trail is shrouded with overgrowth, and sections of the path are unmarked, so we encourage the use of the trail GPS.
Setting out from the parking lot, find the trail signposted for Lone Lake. Using the trail GPS, you will be guided southwest into the wilderness to Carbonate Hill Mine. Here you will be confronted with an intersection; keep left here. Climbing along West Fork Willow Creek, the path will weave through lush woodlands and lively meadows. After some hiking, the incline with intensity, demanding hikers ford some snowmelt streams in the spring. Passing a charming waterfall in peak run-off season, the path will wind up a craggy valley towards Lone Lake.
You will be astounded by the mesmerizing scene of the shimmering lake encircled by pines and the looming ridges anchored by Stevens Peak from the lakeshore. Admire the breathtaking scenery, then head back down the trail the way you came.
