The Boiling River Pools Trail is a short and sweet hike to a lovely swimming spot in Yellowstone National Park. This trail is subject to seasonal closures, so check the NPS website before heading out. As one of the only few spots in Yellowstone where swimming is permitted, the Boiling River Pools Trail can get very busy, especially during tourist season. We recommend heading out on this trail early in the day to beat the crowds. When the Boiling River Pools Trail is open, access is not permitted after 6 pm. There is no food or drink allowed at the swimming pools, and proper swim attire is required.
To hike to the Boiling River Pools, begin at the Lava Creek Trailhead and follow the well-marked path south to the Pools.
Enjoy your time swimming and wading in the water. When you are ready to head home, simply retrace your steps back out to the trailhead where you began.
